Top tips on how to be a whiz — not a klutz — in the kitchen!
- Make baking a breeze by putting flour (for dusting cake tins) in a large salt shaker and keeping it handy with your other baking ingredients
- Make your own piping bag and save on cleaning hassles and costly products. Next time you need to pipe icing or mixes, put the food into a sealable bag, push out all excess air and seal the top. Now cut off a corner of the bag to your desired size and voila, you’re all ready to do the job!
- Next time you’re a bit heavy handed when salting the soup, remember this trick: cut a few potatoes into sizeable chunks and chuck them into the soup pot whilst it’s still on the stove. When the potatoes start to soften in about ten minutes, remove them (and the excess salt they’ve absorbed) and keep them for use in another dish like potato soup or salad
- Nobody likes to be splashed with hot grease and here’s how to prevent that happening: sprinkle a bit of salt to the pan before frying ‘splashy’ foods like bacon and sausages
- Stop cheese from going mouldy by wrapping it in a napkin soaked in salt water before storing it in the fridge
