A triumphant survivor of the many restaurant closures on the tempestuous street of Tong Shin, Sao Nam continues to quietly win fans over, because its interior exudes tasteful simplicity whilst the Vietnamese food prepared by its award winning chef is lip-smackingly authentic. Virtually everything is tasty, from the crispy Vietnamese pancakes bursting with fresh ingredients, the mangosteen and prawn salad that is dynamite to the tastebuds, and the prawn curry main course that is quite simply delectable. Add to that amiable and knowledgeable service, fair prices and a thoughtful price list, and it's understandable why Sao Nam should rank on every foodie's list of must-visit places.

The new premise is brighter but the front portion of the store has a very big see-through glass where passer by actually stares at the diners, which makes dining experience a bit uncomfortable.
Service wise is prompt but lack of flow. Foods are served but not in a set. Dishes with rice are served with dish without the rice for example.
Food wise the Vietnam Pancake is not tasty at all. It is very plain without much taste. As for dishes like Beef Bamboo, Beef Coconut, Beef Stew, Fish Curry, and Fish Noodle Soup are too sweet. It almost tasted totally sweet without any balance of other seasoning.
Yet, mangosteen salad and the spring rolls tasted as good as the previous visits.
